We♥Broadway: Hamilton (national touring) at The Music Hall, Kansas City, MO (Feb 18-March 1, 2026)
Still revolutionary-
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 11-time Tony Award-winning Hamilton: An American Musical can rightfully call itself a modern Broadway classic and remains poignant, exhilarating, and as urgent as ever in these troubling times, more than a decade after it first debuted on stage. We’re thrilled that the production has returned for a run at The Music Hall in Kansas City, through March 1st.
The public got its first peek at a working version of the title song, back in 2009 at an Obama-era Evening of Poetry, Music and the Spoken Word and it would be another six years before the production was finalized and made its off-Broadway premiere. It’s been a rocketship ever since, and the show, back in KC via the American Theatre Guild as part of their PNC Broadway in Kansas City season, remains in hot demand.
From the first notes of its energetic start on “Alexander Hamilton,” the show still feels electric with its hip-hop based score that demands your attention, both in its history lesson and the rapid-fire lyrics, intricate wordplay, and relentless beats that drive the songs and storyline.

Audience heads nodded and feet tapped throughout, with some also softly singing along to showstoppers like “My Shot” and “Yorktown.” The magic and worthiness of this version’s life story of one of the nation’s Founding Fathers, is that is doesn’t shy away from Hamilton’s many imperfections in character and judgment, and is at its heart, is a story about friendship- the ambitious, competitive, brotherly and often tender connection between Hamilton and Aaron Burr.
Virginia native Tyler Fauntleroy brought gravitas and charisma to his lead role, while Jimmie “JJ” Jeter was (dare we say it?) often dy-no-mite as Burr, whether displaying a simmering restraint on his compelling “Wait For It” or bouncing about on Act 2’s “The Room Where It Happens.”

As siblings the Schulyer sisters, Lauren Mariasoosay’s Eliza grounded the production with warmth and emotion, and Marja Harmon lit up the stage as a confident Angelica. A.D. Weaver’s George Washington exuded the steady authority his role requires, and the comic relief was timed perfectly by Matt Bittner’s sassy and still laugh-out loud King George III performance.
Despite policy shifts being forced to the contrary nationwide, the diverse cast remains one of the musical’s most powerful elements and components that helped bring its initial success. The show’s immigrant narrative (“Immigrants- we get the job done!”) earned loud cheers from the Kansas City crowd.

Visually, the production retains its iconic staging: the turntable set in constant motion, ensemble members flowing seamlessly between roles, and crisp and fluid choreography. The show’s pacing is quick without feeling rushed, and its uniting of content, sound, design, and lighting, is still in peak form.
One small wish would have been to amplify some of the vocals just a bit more. With such a talented cast and lyrics packed with wit, emotions, and historical lessons, we found ourselves eager to hear every voice, and every word lifted even more prominently to shine (…or maybe we’re just getting old or feeling the effects of decades of loud concerts).

Hamilton remains a vital and cultural phenomenon, not just because of its innovation, but because it tells a compelling and heartfelt story, set to memorable and well-written songs. Judging by the fervent standing ovation at the final bow, Kansas City agrees: this Revolution still resonates.
