Book Report: DC Finest

Here is a rare book report for you. Amazon has reduced many of the physical-only DC Finest books, as part of their Father’s Day sale. In addition, if you buy two books, you save an additional 50% off the second book, resulting in about less than $20 per book. Retail price is $40, so this is a very good savings, considering that these titles were launched fairly recently.

RIP Dan Storper (Putumayo) and Peter David (The Incredible Hulk)

We have just heard that Dan Storper the founder, creator, and president of Putumayo World Music, has died. In non-music death news, American comic book writer Peter David has recently died at the age of 68. Anyone who have followed comic books, will not be that surprised by his passing.

Misfit Corner Comics at Beach Boulevard Flea Market

By now you all know my sad tale of losing about half my comic book collection when I moved to Jacksonville. I have sworn to never buy anything again… but you all knew that wasn’t going to last. I just have to be smart about what goes into my collection and what I can live without. One thing that I know I can’t get back into is collecting toys. Toys takes up so much space, valuable space that I don’t have.

The Chinese Connection

I think by now you’ve all heard that Elon Musk is a liar and cheater. Last year, Musk boasts that he’s ranked top 20 players worldwide on Diablo IV, and that was already suspicious. I personally didn’t believe it, but I didn’t really care or questioned it because, I had stopped playing the game (because it sucks).

Twin Cities Con 2024

The most successful geek culture gathering in the Minneapolis/St Paul is officially Twin Cities Con, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Every year, this convention is growing in attendance. We thought last year’s attendance was amazing, this year seemed almost double! With extra fans in attendance, the organizers decided to add an extra security screening to get into the Exhibit Hall… which caused delay to get into the room.

Twin Cities Con at Minneapolis Convention Center (10 Nov 2024)

The Sunday Twin Cities Con, at the Minneapolis Convention Center, is the final day, and it starts very early and pretty much ends around 5pm. As for attendance, it felt the same as Friday, if not more. Most fans who attended Sunday, were all-in and had already purchased weekend package (or VIP). You rarely saw Sunday-only badges.

Twin Cities Con at Minneapolis Convention Center (09 Nov 2024)

The Saturday Twin Cities Con, at the Minneapolis Convention Center, is the biggest show of the three-day event. According to Twin Cities Con, there were over 40,000 pre-sold tickets just for Saturday (numbers confirmed by Fox 9).

Twin Cities Con at Minneapolis Convention Center (08 Nov 2024)

It’s the first night of the Twin Cities Con 2024 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The show is one of the largest conventions of its kind in the Twin Cities, bringing together over 40,000 Comic Books Nerds, Gamers, Cosplayers, and Anime fans. Where else can you find Darth Vader standing next to Kamen Rider, or a Spartan hanging out with a Cowboy.

Ten Reasons to get the Kindle Colorsoft

As you may have heard, Amazon is releasing its first color Kindle called the Kindle Colorsoft on October 30, 2024.

The device is a 7-inch tablet that use Kaleido 3 does not appear to be competing with Remarkable Paper Pro, but rather Kobo, who makes a color 7” called the Kobo Libra Colour. The Kobo Colour out in April 2024 and have been slowly converting Kindle readers to Kobo readers.

Further proof, the Kindle Scribe was Amazon’s as an answer to Kobo’s Kobo Elipsa, which is a 10” device for notetaking (but also the ability to read Kobo books).

reMarkable Paper Pro Review

When I first saw the Remarkable Paper Pro online in early September 2024, I dismissed this because of how expensive it was. It’s about $600, and part of that price includes the required pen. Plus, I was massively disappointed in Boox Note Air 3 C due to the poor color representation of Kaleido 3.

After watching some comic book pages on the RPP, I was definitely interested buying this as my digital comic book reader! Unfortunately, as an e-reader, it absolutely sucks. The Remarkable only supports PDF and ePub, with no support for Kindle Books or CBR (the popular comic book archive format).
