Jonathan Richman at First Avenue (October 16, 2025)

Jonathan Richman returned to First Avenue with drummer Tommy Larkins for a phone-free night of unfiltered sincerity. Mixing new songs from Only Frozen Sky Anyway with old favorites, Richman danced between languages, laughter, and tenderness — proving again that simplicity, delivered honestly, can still rock a crowd.

The Cranberries: No Need to Argue (30th Anniversary Edition)

Not a popular opinion, but No Need to Argue is not my favorite The Cranberries album. I prefer the later records, particularly the Bury the Hatchet-era, when I felt the band was in top-form and understood how to write blockbuster songs. Still, No Need to Argue is important because this is the band’s breakout record.

Sparks at the Fitzgerald Theater (September 20, 2025)

Sparks is a musical tandem of Russell and Ron Mael, two brothers born and raised on the coast of California, who found a musical home in London.  Their musical journey started quite a while ago in 1971.  Since then they have recorded 28 studio albums and over 500 songs.  They are currently touring to promote their latest release Mad, but they had plenty of other songs to dip into during their almost two hour concert.

As you can see from the timeline, there's been a lot of changes since 2007. I wish I had taken more screen shots at random times, rather than just waiting for an event to trigger a manual snapshot.

Flashback: Voxtrot at Triple Rock Social Club (05 June 2007)

The only time I saw Voxtrot, it was on their tour with Au Revoir Simone, who I saw with Peter, Bjorn & John at First Avenue on 09 May 2007. Heather from Au Revoir Simone came on stage to sing the girl part in “Young Folks.” I thought the Au Revoir Simone girls were so handsome.
