By now you all know my sad tale of losing about half my comic book collection when I moved to Jacksonville. I have sworn to never buy anything again… but you all knew that wasn’t going to last. I just have to be smart about what goes into my collection and what I can live without. One thing that I know I can’t get back into is collecting toys. Toys takes up so much space, valuable space that I don’t have.
Rochester-based band Joywave just headlined the The Albatross (formerly known as Underbelly) earlier tonight (May 16, 2025), in support of their new album Permanent Pleasure.

Presented by Jacksonville Aviation Authority, this Jacksonville Jazz Festival is amazing multi-day music festival, is completely free! Featuring several award-winning artists performing in the heart of Jacksonville, Florida.
The other app, that is new to me, and came highly recommended by their fans, is called Merlin Bird ID, by Cornell Lab. This app offers the old-style look-up similar to Audubon, but if you have a photo, it will use machine learning to match your bird to its database… and it’s very effective! It does a much better job in finding my bird than the iOS built-in lookup.
The Jacksonville all-ages Palaye Royale show was supposed to be the grand opening for the new venue FIVE, which I would’ve loved to be there for their grand opening… but unfortunately, the venue just wasn’t ready to open (originally the venue was supposed to open in January). All FIVE shows in February was moved to another new venue called Decca Live, which just opened January 31, 2025.
What’s happening this weekend(s): the Jacksonville Edition: Decca Live, Palaye Royale, Lullaby of the Rivers Festival
After a week of dreaded cold, and even some rare snowfall in Florida about two weeks ago (although I did not witness this in my area), the weather here has been in the high 70s to 80’s in the past week! It’s glorious. Since the temperature have gone way up, we decided to take a day trip to St Augustine, a nearby city.
