Kaiser Chiefs – I Heard It Through The Grapevine

[Mar 2004] Employment

[Feb 2007] Yours Truly, Angry Mob

You can find more photos, the setlist, and a review over at Britrockatthetop. The show was at the Trocadero in Minneapolis (21 Apr 2007), which is located at Washington and 3rd Avenue North, which is pretty confusing because about six blocks south is 3rd Street South.

I’ve never been to this venue before, so I wasn’t sure if I like their layout. There is a top floor, which you can overlook at the show, but you have to lean out (so viewing it up on top is not really that ideal). The place is smaller than First Ave and the Quest, and I didn’t really like the strict securities.

The turn out was good, but it didn’t sell out; however, those that turned up knew all the songs and were singing along (especially towards the end with “The Angry Mob” and “Oh My God”).

I was hoping that they were going to their Gladys Knight & the Pips cover, “I Heard it Through the Grapevines”, but they didn’t. They recorded this song for the War Child charity album for 2005. According to the War Child’s statement:

Each band has recorded a brand new track–no remixes, no b-sides, no ‘versions’–for the project, and did so in 24 hours bridging the 8th and 9th September.

Because of the limitation of the 80mins CD format, certain songs that were available for download were taken off the CD. The Canadian version of this album contained more Canadian bands such as Metric and the Dears. I have highlighted the unique tracks in different colors below:
