Amber Ojeda – Here I Am

I wanted to mention Amber Ojeda today because she’s playing in San Diego tonight.

Although I mostly cover ‘indie’ music, I think you guys already should know that I do listen to a variety of genres. I think this is the reason why I am avoiding last.fm because I don’t really want the world to know that I am a closet fan of Hall & Oates.

Amber is an R&B artist based out of the San Diego/Los Angeles area. Her profile lists a huge classic jazz influences (Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday), but if you listen to the song it sounds a lot more modern hip-hop than jazz. The piano is a little different, I suppose.

By the way, the first time I listened to this song “Here I Am”, I thought there was something wrong with the music file I got because there is a chipmunk-sounding “here I am” at the beginning. I think it’s actually Amber’s voice sped up.

Anyway, I think the coolest thing about Amber that you should know is that she’s actually a recurring character on Veronica Mars. I have included a short clip of her in Veronica Mars (she is credit as “Jasmine“.)

Trivia: Her songs have appeared in some movie soundtracks, including “All That I Need” and “Prayer Before Murder“.
