The Boy Bathing

When I listen to The Boy Bathing‘s album A Fire To Make Preparations, it made me think of a geeky boy with thick black glasses, coupled with a handsome blonde old-fashion gal. Don’t bother telling me otherwise, because I already know I’m so wrong.
The music that was provided to me for A Fire To Make Preparations actually had numerous incorrect title tracks. For instance, my favorite song on here is “The Miner’s Jewel” is mistitled as “Bonus Track”. I only know it’s “The Miner’s Jewel” because those lyrics are repeated at the end of the song. So forgive me if I am referring to incorrect songs in this article.
For some reason, listening to these two songs “Victory Walk” and “The Purpose of a Rake”, David Hurwitz’s vocals kind of reminds me of a fighting Irish songs (despite the Spanish-style intro on “Rake”). I have also included this song with my artwork describing what they looked like in my head.
What I really like about the album is that there are a lot of lyrics on their songs, some hints of a broken heart (“The Beaches Meet the Sea”) and desperation (“The Miner’s Jewel”) to a religious undertones (“My Parent’s Religion”). I also really like the girl’s (Jeannie Scofield) vocals, unfortunately she sings mostly backup. However, she does really shine on “The Pilgrim’s Stand”.
For a real photograph of the band, check out their official or myspace… or better yet, see them on tour, IRL. They are playing all month in July and early August. A Fire To Make Preparations will be released this Tuesday, July 15th, but apparently you can buy it directly from them right now.
