Although Peter Cetera started his career off for being the frontsman for Chicago, he may be better known for his string of hit singles as a solo artist. And yes, he does all the hits here on this recently re-issued Soundstage Blu-Ray/DVD: “Glory of Love”, “The Next Time I Fall”, and “You’re the Inspiration”.

Starting off the show is Amy Grant, who may be more famous for “Queen of the Christian Pop” than actually hearing her songs. But once you hear her “Baby Baby” song, it’ll take you back to pop radio in the early 90s.
She looks great here (in 2003), Soundstage always does a great job on capturing the artists on stage. Because of the rather large assembly of a full orchestra (Chicago Pops Orchestra), director Joe Thomas made more uses of wide shots and occassional focus on the conductor, even though the main focus is never taken off the star of the stage with Amy Grant or Peter Cetera.

Peter Cetera’s set is like a powerhouse of hit singles, starting off with “One Good Woman”, his big hit from his third album, One More Story. Even if you’ve never heard of Cetera, I’m almost certain you’ve heard his music if you grew up in the 80s and 90s. Who could forget his song, “Glory of Love”, from Karate Kid, Part II, or his Chicago hit song “You’re the Inspiration”.

One of the highlight of the show was “After All” as a duet with Kim Keyes (who take over Cher’s part). Keyes also does a lot of backup vocals throughout the show, so it was good to finally see her in the spotlight for this song.

The obvious stand-out show stopper is the live duet with Amy Grant for “Next Time I Fall”. A little history on the song, this was the #1 Billboard hit song from 1986 and originally feature Grant on vocals – so it only made sense that she should open up and re-appear for this song live.

Peter Cetera with Special Guest Amy Grant: Live (2003) is out now, as usual, I will recommend getting the Blu-Ray version for a mere couple of dollars more. I’ve been very happy with these Soundstage affordable price (you can get DVD for as low as $10 online, which is much, much cheaper than actually seeing Cetera live in concert), so all is forgiven for the lack of special features (although you do get two extra bonus songs: “25 or 6 to 4” and “Even a Fool Can See”).
