Sharon Van Etten and Tennis stopped by the historical First Avenue in Minneapolis last night, August 4th.

Tennis

Tennis warmed up the crowd. They are based out of Denver, and I believe is driven primarily by husband and wife songwriting team. The band is from the east coast, but their music sounds like they're from west coast.

Singer Alaina Moore mostly stayed behind her keyboard, but once in a while will step in the center with just a mic to do songs like her self-described 'slowjam' song, "My Better Self."

They started their set off with "Pigeon" and "South Carolina" from their 2011 album, Cape Dory, but the majority of songs were from their latest album, Young & Old, like "Never To Part," "Waterbirds" and "Origins."

The ended their catchy dance brief set with "Petition."

Sharon Van Etten is as easy on the eyes as she was on the ears. She started off "All I Can," and the band played on without any issues. Even when tuning her guitar, Van Etten is a pro and can maintain a decent conversation with her fans.

Van Etten's songs are all very personal, from her ex's in "Kevin's," her family in "I Fold," to living in New York in "Give Out."

Encore included "Ask" and "Don't Do It."

Sharon Van Etten is currently on tour to promote her latest album, Tramp.
