So, remember when I mentioned that Rose Elinor Dougall (The Pipettes) was in a relationship with Graham Coxon (Blur) earlier this year? Apparently, the two formed a band called The Waeve (stylised as The WAEVE).

Their debut album came out in 2023, and their last album, City Lights came out last year. What is cool is that our Italian music partner Kalporz, from Matteo Maioli, filed a report on the Waeve’s recent headline show at Koko, in London, on March 20.

I’ll summarize, the band is Graham & Rose, joining them on stage was Joe Chilton on bass, Thomas White on drums and Charlotte Glasson on sax and violin, they played to 1,300 fans.

Opening up the show was White Magic for Lovers (duo Thomas and Alfie White) sounds like they stole their name from a Drugstore album. They covered Low’s “Lullaby” and played a song by Hope Sandoval (“Drop”).

As you guys already know, we love Rose Elinor Dougall and we love Graham Coxon. We saw
The Pipettes in June 2007 and said, “ You know I have a thing for British bands, so I was all over The Pipettes when they first appeared on my radar in 2006. They were just so different at the time, singing old girl-pop and doo-wop sound from the 60s. They were three girls, and they were perfect. My favorite is, of course, Rosay. She would later go on to try a solo act as Rose Elinor Dougall.”

We’ve also seen Blur several times, and while I was cleaning out my basement to pack and get ready to move, I came across some old correspondence from my pen pal, Katie, who had some photos of Jen and their stalking of Graham Coxon. In the photo, Jen gives Coxon a pin that reads “Patron Saint of Caffeine” (which he wore at the Blur show).

So, you know we’re lifelong fans. It was always exciting to see Blur back in the USA, and based on excitement for The Waeve, we hope they would eventually make their way to play America soon.

These photos from Koko tells me they’ve built up a big fanbase, at least in London, and they both look great.

The Waeve remaining tour dates:

  • 21st June Modena, Italy
  • 22nd August Colchester Castle Summer Series
  • 23rd August The Big Feastival
  • 24th August Victorious Festival, Portsmouth
