Thankfully, a short holiday week for most–

Summer’s here and seems like there’s not enough down time to get caught up with life happenings, so a long weekend ahead should help.

Did anyone watch the four-day coverage of the Glastonbury Festival from the UK (hint – a VPN subscription should let you dial in BBC’s iPlayer like you’re a native)?

While all entertaining, including “worst-kept-secret” sets from Lorde, Lewis Capaldi, and Pulp, most of the buzz was arguably around Irish rappers Kneecap, who managed to play despite political pressures, and felt obliged to say whatever they wanted about it all. Their Fall US tour is all sold out, but the real question is whether or not visas get granted, for them to gain entry here.

Let’s take look at the Kansas City / Lawrence KS metro musical happenings for the upcoming week of July 1st-July 6th.

TUESDAY JULY 1

Elvis Costello and the Imposters w Charlie Sexton, July 1, Uptown, $85-$223

July 1 ElvisElvis Costello has extended his successful “Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello” tour into the fall with an additional 22 new dates in September and October, joined by The Imposters with Texas guitarist Charlie Sexton, but he’ll make a KC stop before the US holiday first.

The lineup for The Imposters is comprised of Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas, and Davey Faragher, with Sexton on guitar and each set will feature songs pulled from 1977’s My Aim Is True through 1986’s Blood & Chocolate. Costello’s most recent release was last fall’s King of America & Other Realms, a new box set celebrating his passion for American music and the songs of his that it has inspired.

“You can expect the unexpected and the faithful in equal measure,” Costello said about the tour. “Don’t forget this show is ‘Performed by Elvis Costello & The Imposters,’ an ensemble which includes three people who first recorded this music and two more who bring something entirely new. They are nobody’s tribute band.

Styx and Cronin first toured together in 2000 and in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks, they came together to form the Rock To The Rescue 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which still collects donations for local charities at every stop on Styx's tour.
