Amazon Music Prime available now to Prime Family
I got an email from Amazon today, stating that as a Prime Member through the Family plan, I now have access to Amazon Music Prime.

As you know, I only have Amazon Prime through my brother, who listed me as part of his family sharing. In the past, I would have never pay for Amazon Prime, but as I started using Prime’s free two-day deliveries and other perks (like streaming Bosch or Fallout), now I can’t live without Prime. If my brother decides to cancel his Prime membership, I would have to pay for it, because it’s that good and necessary (at least in my opinion).
Before today (August 12), as a Prime family, I have access to all the Prime benefits – all the Prime Video streaming, all the Prime Gaming (free games!) … everything except for Amazon Music. Not that I cared for it, but it was just annoying that there were road blocks for some things, despite being a family member.
So now, according to the email (see below), I now have the same benefit as my brother’s primary Prime account. Naturally, I started looking in to see what you actually get. Let me tell you: Amazon music is a mess.
There are four different version of Amazon Music: Amazon Music Prime, Amazon Music Unlimited, Amazon Music Free, and Amazon Music Locker.
I’ll start with the easiest and obvious, some CDs that you buy will automatically come with MP3 ripping, so you can access the music through your Amazon Locker/Storage for free. For a long time, this was the only way that I would buy vinyls or CDs, because I get the music instantly after I purchase the physical media.
The free option that anyone can get is Amazon Music Free. The service has advertisements and your selection are severely limited.
Amazon Music for Prime members, I believe is basically the Free version, except they remove the advertisements. Hey, I’m not complaining, but I guess it’s better than nothing!
Amazon Music Unlimited is the ultimate option, and will cost you $12 a month. You get the most music option (over 100 million songs) and those songs are available in HD and you have the ability to listen offline. Personally speaking, I know I wouldn’t pay that much for music… but if I have to pay, I wouldn’t go with Amazon as it is the most expensive option, comparing it to other popular streaming services, such as Spotify or Apple Music.
Anyway, it’s good to know I now have ad-free Amazon Music Prime… not that I would use it.

This update is automatically applied to your account, and you can use Amazon Music to access this benefit at no additional cost.
