This is just a follow up to the news item: Arcade1Up is Shutting Down (published December 11).

My personal belief is that Arcade1Up did not want the public to know about the current state of their company, but the internal leaks forced the company to announced that some “select assets” were sold to Basic Fun!

We want to address a few questions we’ve seen circulating about the Arcade1Up product lines.

Basic Fun! has acquired select assets of Arcade1Up and intends to support, to the best of our ability, the home arcade category and existing Arcade1Up products currently in the market.

This asset acquisition reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding our presence in the home arcade space, supporting current Arcade1up titles and products alongside our own existing arcade offerings.

We’ll have more to share in the new year and look forward to continuing to serve the arcade fan community. Game on!

I’ll be completely honest, I’ve never heard of Basic Fun before, but after looking into this company, it’s relatively new and they make home arcades as well. These home arcade machines are branded as Arcade Classics, and, so far, they only offer three titles: Atari Centipede (with trackball), WWE Ultra Series Game (two players), and Atari Star Wars Ultra Series (with yoke). All these machines came out in November 2025, except the Star Wars was delayed to December 2025 (it looks like it may be currently a Target exclusive?).

These machines, their dimensions and designs, are pretty much the same as Arcade1Up, down to the 17-inch screen. They retail for $600, but it looks like you can get it on sale for about $500, probably due to the holiday sales.

However, there are some key features that sets Basic Fun apart from Arcade1Up: rub-resistant control deck (there is a special protective coating that guards against smears, fading, and wear) and light-up marquee that comes standard to these Basic Fun machines. It’s obvious that they learned from Arcade1Up’s mistakes.

With the exception of the Centipede machine (which offers 40 Atari games), these other cabinets only offer 3 to 5 games. As far as I know, there’s no way to update or add new games, so you’re stuck with those few games forever. That is a real shame, since many of us don’t have the room to have multiple cabinets in our home.

Now that Basic Fun has bought out Arcade1Up, will they continue with the “Arcade1Up” branding? We won’t know all the details until 2026, when they will make additional details and announcements.
