"TEACH ME HOW" was scrawled on the chalkboard at the start of Fiona Apple and Blake Mills' "Anything We Want" show at last night's O'Shaughnessy theater in Saint Paul. Just before they launched in to "Tipple", Apple quickly wrote "to be free"!
Rocktober Round Three. Surfer Blood, Fiona Apple and Blake Mills, Boy, TesseracT, Twin Peaks, Jherek Bischoff, Waterboys
Emily is our guest on this week's W♥M Radio. Last October 2012, we covered about 40 shows. We are gearing up toward another massive "Rocktober" month for 2013! Before we get to Rocktober, we discussed Duke Garwood and Savages at First Avenue (09/17). We mentioned that weird droney Garwood performance with skinnyman Johnny Hostile and the chop/punch/kick aggressive performance from Jehnny of Savages.
Fiona Apple and Blake Mills will be heading out on tour on a special 12 date, North American tour called "Anything We Want: An Evening With Fiona Apple & Blake Mills".
Lara tells me that Margaret Cho is beloved by Asians and gay men. It made me question myself when I'm qualified as both Asian and male. To be honest, I think she's well loved beyond those two groups, even by white people. (That's a joke). Most people may remember Cho as the force behind All American Girl on ABC, advertised for being the "first" all Eastern Asian television show. While this show drew criticism from the Asian community for stereotyping Asians, I just think they didn't understand the humor... I mean how else are you going to make a funny program about race without a little stereotype?
