Hider in the House (1991)
As I previously mentioned in 2022, when the first batches of Vestron Video Collector’s Series came out in 2016, they were super-expensive. We’re talking normal prices of $40 per movie. That meant that I didn’t collect them all, so I have still have gaps in my collection.
Then, Lionsgate changed their strategy and lowered their retail prices (average about $13), with some going as low as $10. The best part is that they were available at Walmart and other retailers. Every time I saw a Vestron at Walmart, I bought them all. I even bought those Steel books (essentially the same movies, but repackaged).
The last Vestron movie I saw in the wild was My Best Friend is a Vampire (which I purchased), and since then (in 2023), I’ve never seen any other Vestron Videos in stores. I thought the line was dead, I thought they ran out titles.
As it turned out, Lionsgate didn’t think there is a big enough of a market for Vestron for the mass consumer, so they decided to make those films available directly through them, through a new service called Lionsgate Limited. This new Lionsgate company will be offering limited edition Steelbooks and Vestron… starting in May 2025.
Currently, there’s only four titles available through Lionsgate Limited, with the latest Hider in the House (#35), available last week (October 14, 2025). As much as I would love to check out these new Vestron, at $25 to $30 a disc, and I have to setup an account on Lionsgate (you can’t get these on Amazon), I may have to pass on these… at least until there’s a title that I am really interested in.
