Wow, can you believe it? Epic Games’s latest Christmas Game Giveaway is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night! What’s crazy is that we’re not even on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, which is traditionally is when Epic gives away the big doorbuster.
I was already pretty happy with the free Hogwarts Legacy that kicked off the Xmas Giveaway, seeing as that is a $60 game that was available for free for seven days. Sure, I had a lot of trouble trying to claim the free game on the first day, but eventually I got it. You have to understand that thousands of other people are also trying to claim the game at the same time, so it hit their server hard. Once the traffic went down, you can get the game without any issues.
Update 12/30/2025: Epic Games is closing out the 2025 year, starting with Trine Classic Collection! Technically this is four games, bundled in this collection. Includes the best-selling Trine series: Trine Enchanted Edition, Trine 2: Complete Story, Trine 3: Artifacts of Power and Trine 4: Definitive Edition. While I haven’t personally played the Trine games, I know that these four titles will likely take you months to play… so there’s plenty of content in this collection.
Collection details:
Join Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief on a journey across a forsaken and ruined kingdom. Bound to a mysterious artifact called Trine, the three unlikely heroes use their unique skills to battle the undead, navigate treacherous environments, and solve challenging physics-based puzzles across a collection of perilous quests. Through the first three titles, the protagonists come to discover, understand, and seek to control the powers bestowed upon them by Trine.

The fourth entry to the puzzle-platforming series returns to Trine’s beloved 2.5D roots. Discover the mysterious Prince Selius, a troubled young wizard whose dark dreams have materialized to wreak havoc in reality. It is up to the band of heroes to resolve the situation before the prince’s magical turmoil consumes the world in its shadows.

Key Features

  • Includes all four classic titles in the series including Trine Enchanted Edition, Trine 2: Complete Story, Trine 3: Artifacts of Power and Trine 4: Definitive Edition (Which includes Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince and the Trine 4: Melody of Mystery DLC expansion campaign).
  • Intuitive puzzles. Harness the elements themselves and experiment with new skills to overcome challenges and obstacles.
  • Dynamic real-time combat. Switch between characters on the fly and adapt to any situation.
  • Boundary pushing graphics. Immersive atmosphere with next-gen visuals create a fantasy world begging to be explored.
  • Meaningful character building. Earn experience points and invest into upgrades for the heroes’ abilities.
  • Rewarding exploration. Dozens of carefully designed and diverse levels to explore, each with distinctly unique environments and styles that are brimming with secrets to discover.
  • Local and online multiplayer. Brave the adventure alone or with friends in online or local co-op.
  • Engaging story. An expansive tale that unfolds across four fantastical fairytale adventures.

Disco Elysium – The Final Cut (2021)
Update 12/25/2025: The Christmas game is Disco Elysium – The Final Cut! I have previously picked up the game a few years ago on sale. But gave up on the game after I couldn’t figure out a puzzle. This is more of a murder-mystery game and moves a little too slow for my taste… but I do appreciate the game and what they are trying to do.
The game was originally released in 2019, but when it made its way to consoles, in the form of the “Final Cut” edition, in 2021, they had to make the game accessible to console players – which included major updates for controller support, as well as full voice acting for all text. Plus to make the game bigger, they added new Political Vision Quests, new locations/characters/clothes, fast travel, and Twitch integration. If you have not the game since 2019, like me, it might be fun to power up the free game and check out all the new addition to the game.
Update 12/24/2025: The Callisto Protocol is the free game for December 24. The game was previously free in Aug 2024, and what I originally wrote still stands (it’s a good game!):
This game is actually very good, despite the clear and obvious Dead Space influence.

The story behind this game, as I understand it, was that EA was not going to make a Dead Space 4, so the Dead Space series creator, Glen Schofield and his team formed a new studio and worked on The Callisto Protocol.

Unfortunately, EA decided they were going to remake the original Dead Space game around the same time. Both The Callisto Protocol (Dec 2022) and Dead Space (Jan 2023), came out around the same time and I read that basically no one bought The Callisto Protocol.

In fact, I didn’t buy The Callisto Protocol until December 2023, because it was on sale on Steam, and I thought it was pretty decent. I didn’t understand why no one liked the game. I thought it was a hard game… and maybe it was a little too much like Dead Space, that perhaps they could have gone in a different direction. Also, I didn’t like the name, I had a hard time remembering what it was called, and may have referred to the game as “the Dead Space knockoff game.”

I haven’t installed the Harry Potter game, just because I’m a little busy with other games at the moment… but I did take a moment to try out the second free game Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, mostly because I was interested in the Vampire Survivor-type gameplay. It’s dumb and it’s fun. It’s everything Vampire Survivor is, except with much better graphics… at the cost that it takes forever to load up a level on my computer. I have a gaming computer – an NVIDIA RTX 3060, so I’m not sure why it takes ages to load up. It got so bad that I would take a bathroom break or snack break when it’s loading up.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2019)
As for today’s (December 23) free game, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, this originally came out in 2019. Why this game is important is that it’s somewhat of an official successor to Konami’s Castlevania. What happened is that Konami didn’t want to produce that type of old 2D platformer that producer Koji Igarashi wanted to do – so he left the company to start Bloodstained. Of course, fans gathered and supported Igarashi with their first very successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015…. The game was basically funded overnight!
I bought Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for my brother on Steam, per his request, and he beat the game. I have dabbled in it, but I think the game is too hard for me. Still, since I got the game for free on Epic, I may try and give it another chance (maybe when I have a little more time).
So far, as of December 23rd, Epic Games have given away $214.93 in gaming value. Don’t sleep on this – log in and claim your daily free game until January 1st! I will be back and updating this page on December 24 and 25, when the big games are announced for free. There may be a final post on January 1st, if that is an amazing game.
