Donald Trump’s ICE invasion in Minneapolis is causing safety concerns. I hate to say it, but the longer the ICE menace remains in Minneapolis, more events will be postponed or canceled.
Minneapolis radio station The Current announced the cancellation of their 21st Anniversary Celebration with Brigitte Calls Me Baby and Joseph with Colin Bracewell and DJ Jake Rudh (January 23rd). Just reading the room, I suspect this was done for the safety of the community, due to unwanted ICE activities in the city.
The Current’s statement:
This isn’t the right moment to celebrate us, so our 21st Anniversary Celebration on January 23 is canceled. Refunds are on the way.
We will continue to support coming together to be in community with music.

Each January, The Current looks forward to celebrating our anniversary at First Avenue with music fans from across our community. This year, we’ve decided that now is not the right moment for us to host a celebration. As a result, The Current’s 21st Anniversary Celebration on January 23 has been canceled.
All ticket buyers will receive a full refund. Ticket holders will receive a follow-up message shortly with details on timing and next steps.
We’ll continue doing what we do best—amplifying local music across Minnesota. You can find music anytime at thecurrent.org.
Chicago duo Drama had to cancel their upcoming Minneapolis show on January 23, 2026, at the Fine Line, with special guest Blank Sense.
Minneapolis family, this one hurts. DRAMA is for the people and that means making responsible choices & unfortunately we need to cancel Friday’s show. We love you and we will be back soon. Please take care of each other.
DRAMA
Drama
We saw Drama on their very first Minneapolis appearance in October 2018 and wrote, “Opening the show was Chicago-based duo Drama (not to be confused with UK’s Drama, punk band Drama, Norwegian pop rock Drama, or New Jersey’s Dramarama). The R&B/dance group features singer Via Rosa and DJ/beats Na’el Shehade. This was the band’s first time in Minneapolis, and they love it. The story that Rosa told about their secret origin as a band was that Shehade was working as owner/manager of three restaurants, but he had always had a passion for being creative. The two met one day and he instantly wanted Rosa in his band. Rosa showed up to a rehearsal for this “band” and it turned out it was just the two of them in a studio. As history would have it, the two hit it off and created their band Drama.”
The RaveQuest’s “A Medieval Winter Ball” (originally scheduled for January 19), featuring BEJALVIN, Daisy Hex, Mother3k, and Starthirl decided this was just not the right time and have decided to reschedule the event.
Event organizer Club Stardust writes:
In light of ICE’s ongoing siege of our city and the active kidnapping of our neighbors, we feel that promoting and continuing on with RaveQuest as originally planned in the coming days feels irresponsible and have decided to postpone the show in order to fully prioritize the safety of the attendees and our community.
If you’re able to go out and volunteer within your community, please do so. If you are performing or hosting events, consider donating the proceeds. Having people directly on the ground to defend those being targeted is the most important thing any of us can do this moment.
A new date will be announced in the coming weeks. If you are looking for ways to help there are links for mutual aid and organizations directly helping those in need within the following slides.
Stay safe and look out for each other. We look forward to dancing when a safer time comes ♥
