Cold as Ice by Foreigner (1977)
You’re as cold as ice
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You want paradise
Someday you’ll pay the price, I know

You know that you are cold as ice
As cold as ice to me, Cold as ice

(‘Code as Ice’, ironically written by Foreigner)

We previously mentioned that the murders of Renée Good and Alex Pretti had united people from across the globe to stand up against the brutality of Donald Trump’s I.C.E. There are so many anti-ICE songs that there is a whole Wikipedia Page.
Musicians Against ICE:
With the announcement of the “drawdown” of I.C.E. from Minnesota on February 15, 2026, things are quieting down… But I’ll still continue to monitor.

Days of Ash by U2 (Feb 18, 2026)
U2
On Ash Wednesday, U2 released a new standalone 6-track EP called Days of Ash. The collection features five new songs and a poem by Yehuda Amichai.
Singer/songwriter Bono explains:
It’s been a thrill having the four of us back together in the studio over the last year… the songs on Days of Ash are very different in mood and theme to the ones we’re going to put on our album later in the year. These EP tracks couldn’t wait; these songs were impatient to be out in the world. They are songs of defiance and dismay, of lamentation. Songs of celebration will follow, we’re working on those now… because for all the awfulness we see normalized daily on our small screens, there’s nothing normal about these mad and maddening times and we need to stand up to them before we can go back to having faith in the future. And each other.

“If you have a chance to hope it’s a duty…” is a line we borrowed from Lea Ypi.

A laugh would be nice too. Thank you.

The lead song, “American Obituary” is about the point-blank shooting of Renée Nicole Macklin Good for exercising her right to peacefully protest. We all saw the truth, yet the government described as a “domestic terrorist.”
Other songs on the EP sings about injustices suffered by Jewish prophets, Sarina Esmailzadeh, Awdah Hathaleen, and the Ukrainian people.

Pretti/Good by Dan Rodriguez (February 6, 2026)
Dan Rodriguez
Local Minneapolis musician Dan Rodriguez and self-proclaimed “Troubadour Family Man” released Pretti/Good song on February 6, 2026. We last mentioned Rodriguez in June 2017 when he opened for Charlie Mars at the Cedar Cultural Center.
On the new Pretti/Good release, Rodriguez writes:
Pretti/Good is out now. All proceeds will go to mutual aid. This was written out of grief in my heart. Writing and playing music are therapy for me. Turns out, listening to heart songs can be therapy for people too.

My hope for this tune is to put into words some of the grief you may have.

If you help by sharing this, liking it, commenting, then more people will be able to share in this gift from my heart to yours.

Also worth noting is that Rodriguez will be doing a small Spring tour. If you’re located in one of his tour stops, show up and show support.

Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice (Dec 2, 2024)
Vanilla Ice
All right, stop, collaborate and listen. Ice is back! That’s right, after 36 years, Vanilla Ice’s hit song, “Ice, Ice Baby” is back on the top Billboard’s Rap Songs chart. This is thanks to all the I.C.E. news and the recent Olympic Winter Games.
Vanilla Ice said, “I honestly had no idea. I could never imagine. I’m just sitting here scrolling through social media, TikTok, and it’s one after another. ‘Ice Ice Baby.’ I get it. It works well with the Winter Olympics.”
Despite the political connections to Donald Trump’s New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago and ICE Agents using Vanilla Ice’s song… Ice, like Sweden, said he prefers to remain neutral.
I don’t know Ice… you can have a little respect and not work for Donald Trump… or at the very least, demand justice for the killing of Renee Good or Alex Pretti.

Amazon Ring Camera
Ring Camera
You might have seen that Super Bowl commercial about finding a lost dog using Amazon’s Ring Cameras. It’s a feel-good story of the year, right? Wrong! The backlash was immediate, as Ring owners disconnected or destroyed their cameras, according to USA Today. Even rival camera maker Wyze popped up with a parody commercial.
The reasons? Privacy concerns. If Ring can use their “Search Party” feature to find dogs, it can (and have) used their network to find humans. Of course, Amazon said that this finding people feature is only used with authorized law enforcement, via a company called Flock and Axon – but it’s been reported that various companies (not just police) have access to the Flock data.
On Flock’s website, they mentioned that they do not work with ICE… however NPR reported that ICE is using Flock’s license plate data to find and track people:
Santa Cruz was among a number of California cities that learned their local data had been shared with Flock’s national network without city officials’ knowledge or intent. It was alarming to some officials given that state laws forbid cities from sharing license plate data with federal or out-of-state agencies, or assisting federal immigration enforcement.
The reasons why we know ICE is using this data is because the logs shows “ICE” or “Immigration” as why data was searched.
This kind of tracking is so concerning that DeFlock was created in 2024 to educate people why Flock is an abuse to privacy. If you go to their website, they show you a sample of Flock’s surveillance – it keeps a log of the make, model, color, license plate, stickers (like if you were a Raiders fan), date, time, precise location … all without requiring a warrant.
With all the negative spotlight, Amazon announced it was ending its partnership with Flock on February 13, 2026.
On a personal note, I do not own a Ring Camera, because I find its subscription-only pricing revolting. I currently own a Wyze and a Kasa camera. Both do not require a subscription. The Wyze has an SD card that records the footage locally.
