Milwaukee Metal Fest – Friday, June 5, 2026
article by Quynh
Prologue complete, onto the first chapter:
National Donut Day was not celebrated this June 5th as this year We♥Music was line to see the live Jasta podcast. They gave out purplish wristbands because there was a limited number of seats, some of which were reserved, set up on the CopyCat Media Stage also known as BLK II BLK or the Rave Bar Stage. There was foreshadowing the previous night prompting us to look up an explosion in 1990 at the Milwaukee Metal Fest.
Trevor Peres detailed how Obituary was told not to bring explosives so they snuck in gunpowder in the drum set. Ceiling confetti rained down on him from the drum-set sized hole and a 2×6 board flew across the stage to land in the hands of a sound guy who has it to this day. Hilarious stories like this peppered the show, including a couple of tips on how to get thrown off a plane. One tale included drinking a few Fliritini’s, a fruity cocktail consisting of pineapple juice, vodka and champagne. The drummer decided they should have a manlier name, so going forward, we will call them Viking’s testicles. The hour ended with a game that included prizes for audience participation of “name that drum solo.”
On this Friday, we camped out mostly at the Sumerian Records Stage, being able to watch in their entirety – Hirax, Pallbearer, Death Angel, Agalloch, Obituary and Acid Bath.
Katon W. De Pena (Hirax’s frontman) mused that this was like a party, only it was the biggest backyard party he had ever seen. He called out to his barbecue guests as they were coming in to fill the room to go grab a beverage, jokingly as long as you don’t mind paying $19.95 for a beer. In actuality the beers are about $12 but here’s another tip about drinks, some of the food trucks only charge $2 or $3 for a bottle of water. The sets were only about 30 minutes long, yet Katon had to stop before starting up again to point out and compliment a fan on their Hirax tattoo. He also brought up a good point about how there were people from all over the world that travel for this weekend and the camaraderie that comes from that.

Hey everyone! If you’re headed to Milwaukee Metal Fest Friday, there’s been another change. When Jeffrey Nothing cancelled, I figured it’d be fun to another JASTA set but Frog Mallet’s van broke down so I am giving them our set at 6:05 on the Blue Grape Music Stage. I can play MMF anytime but it’s not often we get a chance for 2 Frog Mallet sets in one weekend so go rage HARD for the mallet on both Friday & Sunday!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the Milwaukee Metal Fest pre-party! It was incredible! I was gonna do another set Friday but Frog Mallet needs some van repairs so I’m happy to donate my set time to them. They’ll have merch at the main booth too. Hit the merch then hit the pit. I’ll see everyone at the live podcast Friday & the Slayer tribute set Saturday !
