Sometimes it’s good (especially during the summer) to lay back, take in the sun, feel some good vibes, and chill and that was the feeling during the 2026 So Glad You Made It Tour, a six-week summer jaunt co-headlined by Dirty Heads and 311, with support from Ocean Alley and Rome Ramirez, making for a full night, and which made a stop just outside of Kansas City at Morton Amphitheater.

Since 311 is from nearby Omaha and still has a strong local following, we assumed they would headline the evening, but since the bands rotate that role, it would be Dirty Heads chance to close the evening, which the grooving crowd seemed more than ok with.

Both the co-headliners had toured together previously (2019 Unity Tour) and each has spent years cultivating their own respective fan bases (which do seem to intersect), so their pairing seemed very natural, most evident when 311’s Nick Hexum joined Dirty Heads on the song the tour was named for, “So Glad You Made It.”

Dirty Heads were eager to embrace the new, beginning their set with the initial single from their latest album, the title track “Seven Seas” from their first full-length in four years, released in June.

Amazing that Jared “Dirty J” Watson and vocalist/guitarist Dustin “Duddy B” Bushnell met in Orange County, CA thirty years ago (though it would take another decade for the pair’s first album). Even their cover of Joe Walsh’s “Life’s Been Good” went down well, transformed into the Heads’ reggae-inflected, jam rock style.

Following the new “Sound Boy Killa” from the new record, the band dialed it back over a decade, to end the evening with 2014 favorite, “Medusa” (the studio version of which featured Jamaican dancehall group Ward21- are they still around?).

Since their late 80’s beginnings in Omaha, 311 has remained relatively intact after almost four decades together and has weathered the musical tide to remain a still popular and relevant band that celebrates shows like their annual 311 Day, a cruise outing, and more- quite a change from their regular stops at The Granada in Lawrence or Uptown in KC, in their earlier days.

Their fourteenth and latest studio album was 2024’s Full Bloom, but the band’s catalog is deep, so Nick Hexum; Aaron “P-Nut” Wills; Chad Sexton; Tim Mahoney and Doug “SA” Martinez have plenty to select from and began their set with three classic numbers that the longtime fans particularly became engaged with.

The set moved easily between more reggae-inspired chill tracks to bass-driven higher-energy numbers and once it felt like things were winding down on 2001’s “Amber”, the pace picked back up with muster on 1991’s “Feels So Good”, the song that got many to turn heads (especially here in the Midwest) and would end with “Down”, their 1996 breakthrough song that topped the Billboard Modern Rock chart, and made them a Midwest secret no more, moving quickly to becoming worldwide renown.

Down Under, but from the Northern Beaches of Australia, Ocean Alley is described as an alt-rock/psychedelic band who have been out in support of last June’s Love Balloon album, which is an exploration of the nature of love, with the band’s Lachlan Galbraith clarifying, “Not just the cinematic kind where you’re falling head over heels. The full spectrum; joy, hurt, discomfort and disappointment.”

The band has a reggae tinge about them as well, making them a natural fit to this touring package, and worked in their established cover of Player’s “Baby Come Back”, a 1977 lite-rock chart-topper that the band released as a 7” back in 2020.
