The Melismatics
The Melismatics are a Minneapolis-based indie/post-punk/new wave band known for energetic live shows, fronted by vocalist/guitarist Ryan Smith and singer Pony (Kathie Hixon-Smith). Formed around 2000, they gained traction with college radio, toured extensively, appeared on MTV shows, and released albums like New Infection and The Acid Test, with members like Mark Wade (bass) and Ron Caron (drums). Ryan Smith later joined Soul Asylum, but the band remains active, with new music emerging from the duo’s side project ryanandpony.com
