Self-declared “cutest band in indie” Divine Sweater headlined the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on Tuesday night. The Brooklyn, former Boston, band is touring in support of their third album Down Deep (A Nautical Apocalypse) (Better Company Records).

Opening the show were two local bands, starting with easeupkid (aka David). He stole his stagename from another local group, Hippo Campus.

David confessed that he’s a massive fan of the 7th Street Entry, having spent so many nights at the venue, seeing all his favorite bands… and now it’s a dream come true to be on the other side of the stage.

I was actually more curious about the next band, a rather large ensemble called NATL PARK SRVC, featuring nine band members on stage. Seven of them named on their website (Dylan Woytcke, Nathan Zillmer, Jared Leger, Sage Livergood, Sam Tudor, Wes Muilenburg, and Joe Keyport), with two additional singers, Shayla and Whitney, added to their live roster.

With other large bands, such as The Polyphonic Spree or Broken Social Scene (everyone in Canada is in this band), they are really fun to watch and hear. Everyone is laughing and having such a good time… even though they’re singing about someone punching them in the face.

According to the singer, this was only their third time playing the Entry, but it seemed like the venue was an old friend to the band.

Closing out the show was Divine Sweater (singer Meghan Kelleher, guitarist Sean Seaver, drummer Chris Southiere, bassist Alex Goldberg, and keyboardist Steve Lin). This was the band’s first time in Minneapolis… and singer Meghan jokingly declared that she is immediately going to move here. Although they may enjoy the summer here… maybe come back in the winter and her opinion may change.

The band was nominated for the Alt/Indie Band of the Year by the Boston Music Awards, so it boosted their monthly listeners on Spotify. They’ve been featured on Pitchfork and Stereogum, among many other music outlets.

With two previous albums, Human Love (2019) and Divine Sweater Presents: The Ten Year Plan (2021), and the new one Down Deep (A Nautical Apocalypse), the band did not have a problem of running out of songs to play. If they could, they probably will be happy to play another hour or two.
