Acclaimed Welsh alt-rock duo The Joy Formidable is returning to Minneapolis, playing the Parkway Theater, on May 21, 2026.

We last saw Joy Formidable in Sep and said, “With the delayed 2022 tour (no thanks to the COVID pandemic), the band is finally back on tour for their fifth album Into the Blue, with the Kansas City and St Paul, being their fifth and sixth show in three years. Lighting conditions were especially dark and with a blue and splash of purple (see photos), perhaps in theme of Into the Blue. We’ve since seen the band multiple times, and since it’s been so long since they last tour, Ritzy seems more open and extra chatty. The band was also happy to reconnecting with many of their returning fans from previous shows. Compared to their “loose” set in Nov 2018, the band was seemed focused playing the new songs, including the title track “Into The Blue” and “Sevier”.”

Originally booked for January 30, 2026, this local show, headlined by Anna Devine (Devine also plays in Chutes) has been rescheduled to a much warmer May 21, 2026, date.

The Decibel Magazine Tour 2026 will stop by the Fine Line, in Minneapolis, on May 22, 2026. This year, the tour will feature Cryptopsy as headliner, along with Necrot, Fulci, and Blood Monolith.

Cryptopsy are celebrating the 35th anniversary of their album None So Vile, which Decibel crowned the tenth best death metal album of all time. Cryptopsy’s latest album, An Insatiable Violence was nominated for Best Metal/Hard Music Album at this year’s JUNO Awards (Canadian Grammys).

Whitney returns to the Twin Cities, playing the Turf Club, in St Paul, on May 22, 2026.

We saw Whitney in Oct 2019 and wrote, “Whitney closed out the show. The most interesting thing about this Chicago band is that their singer is actually their drummer, Julien Ehrlich. We saw the group in May 2016, stating “The second they took the stage, there was something familiar about them. Come to find out that two members of this band (Max Kakacek and Julian Ehrlich) are actually former members of The Smith Westerns (RIP). These guys had joined forces with members of a few other Chicago groups to form Whitney.” We soon realized that, in fact, the band is actually from the ashes of Smith Westerns… who we saw in August 2013: “Smith-Westerns took to the stage after 10 pm and kicked in to “Fool Proof,” off of Soft Will. The guys played well despite the oppressive heat (lead singer Cullen Omori, who was dressed in an ultra-thin, billowy shirt, looked like he might melt under the stage lights) and end-of-tour fatigue.””
