R.I.P. Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory)

New Found Glory the Florida punk-pop, alt-rock band formed in 1997, has lost its guitarist co-founder, Chad Gilbert, who passed away following an over four-year battle with cancer, as confirmed by the band and his wife, Lisa in a social media post. Following being diagnosed with liver cancer in 2021, his more recent battles were with brain cancer.

His initial cancer had been removed by early 2022, but following some back pains, it was discovered that the cancer had returned in other parts, causing some spinal vertebrae removal and leaving him unable to perform with the band, who released their newest full-length, Listen Up! in February and were currently appearing on the Vans Warped Tour legs.

He had co-founded NFG as a teenager and his second marriage was to Paramore’s Hayley Williams in 2016, but like his first (to Eisely’s Sherri DuPrey), was very short-lived. The band initially broke through with 2002’s Sticks and Stones and the record’s lead single “My Friends Over You,” which charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Gilbert is survived by his wife Lisa, daughter Lily, mother Jackie and brother Brian.

The band shared, “On the morning of September 20th, Chad Everett Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep. He left this world surrounded by friends and family and took his final breaths with his wife and mother by his side, just as he wished.”
